Part III: Fall of the Ottoman Empire

Throughout the rest of the 1800’s the Ottoman Turks lost lots of territory to countries like Bosnia, Bulgaria (Who were both backed by Russia, starting the Russo - Turkish war, 1877 - 1878), Greece, Romania, France, Montenegro, Serbia, and Britain.

This is an estimated graph. I got data for it from glancing at a map. There for it may not be accurate

In 1907 Austria - Hungary, fearing the Young Turks revolutionists organization might start to reform Turkey (which, in 1908 they did) annexed Bosnia - Herzegovina. This caused the Bosnia Crisis when Serbian goverment backed by Russia demanded Bosnia - Herzegovina to be returned. Austria brought in their ally , Germany, and threatened to declare war on Serbia. When Russia backed down Serbia was forced to accept the Annexation. This followed The First, and Second Balkan in which Albania was formed, and Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, and Romania saw their borders expand. For most they gained over 30% of what they had before.

And then came the fall of the Ottoman Empire. And it all started with a tiny little war. Well not exactly tiny. Infact one would say that almost the whole world was involved. Yes folks, we're talking about World War I. Here are some of the main the reason that the Ottoman Empire went to war:

  1. The German Influence through trade routes
  2. Their growing loss of land
  3. A declaration of War from the Triple Entente

The Ottoman Empire fought mostly eastern fronts in Persia, the Middle East, Egypt, and the Caucasus Region. At the end of two years they did fight a series of battles in Macedonia, Greece, and Albania though. The Young Turks Society decided to take the opportunity of WWI to attack the east -but not against the Triple Entente-; They massacred around 6,000,000 to 15,000,000 Armenians in one of the largest genocides in world wide history. It lasted 7 years until the Young Turks founded Turkey (but we're not ready to talk about that just yet). Armenian communities were destroyed, and the people living there were taken away to concentration camps where they indored brutal work. They usually died from starvation, being shot (the camp guards were usually responsible), or they were worked to death.
